Strategic Retail Account Manager

About the role
The Strategic Retail Account Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth and brand loyalty among InClover’s retailer partners, including direct multi-unit accounts and some retailers through distribution. Success in this role demands adaptability, learning agility, and a keen sense for nuance. You’ll listen first, then tailor your approach, developing personalized solutions for partners with different needs, missions, and internal processes. You’ll serve as a strategic thought partner to buyers, ask insightful questions, and craft high-impact plans with professionalism and diplomacy.
There are no direct reports. This role requires regular cross-functional collaboration with marketing, operations, and sales peers to ensure a stellar end-to-end retailer journey and effective execution of InClover’s retail strategies. You should be comfortable in ambiguity, resilient when addressing challenges, and confident taking initiative. This position reports to the Director of Sales and Marketing.
Role accountabilities
- Achieve revenue and growth targets for strategic accounts by developing personalized plans and approaches with confidence and flexibility.
- Maximize retailer satisfaction and retention by listening deeply and responding with tailored, creative solutions.
- Strategically increase product offerings & revenue across retail partners, bringing curiosity and a willingness to take calculated risks to drive new ideas and approaches.
- Forge strong relationships with distributor and outside sales reps and leverage these relationships to meet growth and revenue targets for strategic accounts.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary account manager for multi-unit and strategic retail accounts, developing joint business plans and growth strategies tailored to each partner.
- Build and deepen relationships with retail buyers, distributor partners and decision-makers, and outside sales reps, leveraging these connections to drive account growth and meet revenue targets.
- Develop and nurture strong, personalized relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders, acting in a professional and diplomatic advocate for both retailer partners and InClover.
- Coordinate all aspects of retailer onboarding, education, and ongoing product and sales training for new and established retailers and outside sales reps.
- Collaborate extensively with sales and marketing peers to align selling tools, promotional calendars, and sales strategies, and to ensure unified account messaging.
- Regularly analyze account performance using POS, CRM, and ERP data and adjust quickly to set sales targets, troubleshoot challenges, and monitor promotional effectiveness.
- Partner with marketing to execute targeted promotions, co-branded events, and retail staff engagement programs that drive sell-through, experimenting with new ideas and measuring their real-world impact.
- Represent InClover at select tradeshows, retail and customer events, product demonstrations, and community activities with professionalism, confidence, and commitment to learning at every interaction.
- Monitor pricing, discount structures, and promotional effectiveness, championing integrity and fair partnership at every opportunity.
- Perform other related sales/account management duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Key Attributes
- MUST have 5+ years of sales/account management experience in CPG, pet retail, or similar environment with multi-unit or complex corporate accounts.
- MUST be proficient in CRM (HubSpot strongly preferred), ERP (QuickBooks a plus), and Microsoft Office Suite. Data-driven with strong analytical skills is required.
- Proven ability to build deep, strategic retail partnerships, demonstrating diplomacy, adaptability, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Communication, Sales, Marketing, or related field), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Highly skilled in listening, nuanced communication, and negotiation; you lead with curiosity and adjust your sales approach based on each account’s unique model and drivers.
- Collaborative and accountable team player, adept at building relationships cross-functionally and acting on feedback.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% (including some weekends) for events, partner meetings, and account support.
